Finance & Accounting Students!  Charter Bank is offering a fantastic opportunity for an internship position! This is great experience for anyone looking to increase their foundational knowledge of banking, finance, and skills required for being a lender.  If you are ready to jump in and gain hands on experience with a great team, we want to know you!

Shift / Hours:

  • 20 - 30 hours / week with potential for additional hours during school breaks
  • Work within the hours of Mon – Fri, 8am – 5pm
  • Position anticipated to start in Fall 2021

Responsibilities:

  • Receive, scan, and log financial statements from business loan customers.
  • Spread business financial statements and tax returns for Commercial Borrowers using Charter Bank’s credit software spreading system to prepare multiple-year comparative financial statements for both potential and existing loan customers. 
  • Assist Credit Analysts with the preparation of loan files for loan renewals. This includes the preparation of the Loan Renewal Checklist and related items including debt service and collateral coverage calculations. 
  • Assist Credit Analysts with analysis of Customer’s financial information and related material using credit software, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in an Accounting, Finance, or related degree program
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

Work Schedule:  

  • Normally 40 hours / week
  • Typical schedule is within regular banking hours (Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5pm)
  • Exempt-level position

Responsibilities: 

  • Provides commercial and investment real estate lending services to customers in accordance with bank lending policies and profitability standards

Required Experience & Skills​​​​​​​

  • 2+ years commercial lending experience or a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting or related

  • Perform exception item processing of accounts
  • Perform functions supporting ATM / Debit Card processing

  • 2 Full Time Openings (40 hours / week)
  • Between the hours of Mon – Fri: 7:45am - 4:15pm or 8:30am - 5pm (shifts can vary)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide, friendly, courteous service to both Internal and external customers.
  • Learn, retain and recall several types of information including all bank products. 
  • Have the ability to explain all bank products and services to our customers.
  • Open new accounts using proper documentation and procedures and comprehending the new accounts software application and processing the new accounts efficiently and accurately.
  • Collect appropriate fees as required by pricing and fee schedules for various products and services.
  • Process personal and business check orders.
  • Maintain proper account closing procedures, documentation, and general ledger entries.
  • Maintain proper safekeeping procedures.
  • Complete HSA and IRA procedures such as: knowledge, opening accounts, deposits, withdrawals, and proper documentation.
  • Comprehend procedures for combined statements.
  • Process any necessary changes regarding accounts on the Platform system.
  • Research, solve and complete problems regarding all accounts; customer service requests/problems.
  • Complete all Internet banking setup and maintenance to include initial business and consumer setup, cash management, token issuance, bill pay, mobile banking and e-statement processes.
  • Troubleshoot all online banking related customer issues.
  • Allow access to Safe Deposit customers via e-sign processes.
  • Image all new/existing documentation for all deposit products and services
  • Provide quality customer service in person and over the phone while maintaining proper telephone etiquette.
  • Practice effective customer service skills when responding to customer inquiries as outlined in the banks Customer Service Policy.
  • Maintain efficient and accurate cash drawer by:
    • Keeping drawer within specified cash limits, ensure currency and coin are secured at all times
    • Sort, count and package currency and coin according to specifications
    • Balance teller cash drawer
  • Accept and process various customer transactions, verify endorsements, cash in/out and issue customer receipts:
    • Commercial/Individual checking deposits & Savings deposits/withdrawals
    • Account transfers
    • Commercial/Installment loan payments
    • Issue Charter Bank money orders, cashier’s checks, and gift cards.  Collect appropriate fees.
    • Redeem U.S. Savings Bonds
    • Process Visa/Master Card cash advances
    • Count and process customer change orders & Cash checks according to established guidelines
  • Follow Offline procedures for teller transaction processing in the event of a communication failure.
  • Document and maintain dual control when processing and handling the following:
    • Night drop bag and envelope deposits, mail deposits & courier customer deposits
    • Large business currency/coin deposits
    • ATM balancing
    • Verifying Federal Reserve Bank currency and coin orders/deposits
  • Identify Large Currency Transactions (CTRs) and obtain proper information to process and file CTR Reports.
  • Assist in processing End of Day work:
    • Cash Advances, Balance coin machine & Balance the main and day vaults

Responsibilities:

  • Abide by Internal Audit Code of Ethics principles of Integrity, Objectivity, Confidentiality and Competency.
  • Assist Internal Auditor in fulfilling duties and responsibilities as required by the Board of Directors, Audit
    Committee and Audit Policy.
  • Assist in conducting FDICIA testing in accordance with COSO framework and ensuring proper
    documentation is maintained to evidence testing and results.
  • Under Internal Auditors supervision, prepare written reports to the Audit Committee that indicate the
    outcome of the audits, findings and recommendations made. Discuss report with management and
    conduct follow up reviews for areas where deficiencies were noted.
  • Help coordinate external audit engagements with management and external firms, including scheduling
    and monitoring completion.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business and/or Management Information Systems or
    equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification.
  • 1-3 Years’ financial institution experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills with the following requirements: proficiency in the Microsoft Suite (primarily Word and
    Excel) and an aptitude for data entry or keyboarding.
  • Willingness to gain a solid understanding of banking practices with interest in continued education,
    including field related studies and certification.

Desirable Experience & Skills:

  • Internal audit experience.
  • Understanding of conditional formatting and/or creating formulas on Excel.
  • Familiar with audit testing environment.
